Kansas City BBQ is distinctive for its slow smoking and its rich molasses sauces. The design direction alludes to the slow food movement with authentic representations, scratch-made dishes, and local cuisine. The palette throughout the lobby bar, restaurant, and market features the color of molasses: dark and shiny, drippy motifs and lighting, semitransparent glass or resin, and rich dark wood. The design is warm, with a woody bar and amber tones, offering a contrast between the contemporary architecture and materials of the new building.
